How to add an overlay to OBS

Overlays from overlays.vxh.pl are regular web pages with a transparent background. OBS displays them through a Browser source, so there's nothing to install.

How to add it to OBS step by step

  1. Open overlays.vxh.pl and pick an overlay from the list on the left.
  2. Adjust the look in the "Settings" panel on the right. The preview updates instantly.
  3. Below the preview, click "Copy" next to "Browser Source link".
  4. In OBS Studio, click + in the "Sources" panel, choose "Browser" and give it a name.
  5. Paste the link into the "URL" field. Enter the width and height shown below the preview (e.g. 1920×1080, or 640×360 for a webcam).
  6. Click OK. Set the order: effects and frames above your game and webcam, starting, break and ending screens as separate scenes.
  7. If you change the settings later, copy the new link and replace it in the source properties.

Questions and answers

The overlay has a black background instead of a transparent one. What should I do?

Make sure it's a Browser source, not a Window Capture or Image source. In the source properties, remove any custom CSS that sets a background.

The animation doesn't move or it stutters.

In the source properties, check "Shutdown source when not visible" so hidden overlays don't load your computer, and make sure the source isn't larger than it needs to be.

How do I refresh the overlay after changing settings?

Paste the new link into the source properties or click "Refresh cache of current page".

Does it work in Streamlabs?

Yes. In Streamlabs Desktop, add a "Browser Source" and paste the same link.

Where are my settings saved?

All settings are stored in the OBS link itself. You can also save them under a name in the "Saved" tab, but that copy lives only in this browser's storage (localStorage). It won't be there on another computer, which is why the VXH1- share code exists for moving settings around.

Does the overlay slow down my computer?

Effects are drawn on a single canvas or in CSS and run smoothly in OBS. If your computer is on the slower side, lower the "Amount" slider or the source size.
